The BMI ranges and classifications are:

  • Normal weight: BMI of 18.5 to 24.9
  • Overweight: BMI of 25 to 29.9
  • Obese:
    • BMI of 30 or higher – Obese Class I (surgical criteria with comorbidity)
    • BMI of 35 or higher – Obese Class II (surgical criteria with no comorbidity)

Patient criteria for all treatment options

  • Age >18
  • No eating disorders
  • No untreated acute psychiatric disorders
  • No alcohol or drug dependency
  • Has tried other avenues without success
  • Committed to a healthy lifestyle and lifelong care

Additional patient criteria for weight-loss medication

BMI 27 (with comorbidity)

BMI 30 (without comorbidity)

Average weight loss with medication is 5-10% of total body weight.

Patients with pancreatitis or allergies to medication may not be suitable for medication.

Additional patient criteria for Allurion Gastric Balloon 

BMI 27 – 40

Average weight loss with an Allurion Gastric Balloon is 10-15% of total body weight.

Patients who have had previous bariatric surgery or a laparotomy may not be suitable for an Allurion Gastric Balloon procedure.

Additional patient criteria for Endosleeve (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty)

BMI 30 – 50

Average weight loss with an Endosleeve procedure is 15-20% of total body weight.

Patients who have large hiatus hernia, gastritis, blood disorder or gastric lesions (ulcers) may not be suitable for an Endosleeve procedure.

BMI 30 (with comorbidity)

BMI 35 (without comorbidity)

Average weight loss with a Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Bypass surgery is 30-35% of total body weight.
